BIOSPHERE

The biosphere contains elements in the environment that we need for existence, such as breathable air, drinkable water, and digestible food. Global warming is an example of human activity “perturbing” the biosphere and creating concerns.

These concerns are leading to conservation practices and a transformation in human consciousness. This phenomenon is referred to as “natural drift” and is slowly depleting the biosphere’s resources on which we all depend for our survival. This is often referred to in geological time, as the Anthropocene Period, where human behaviour is now creating the conditions for a rapid deterioration of the biosphere.  These “perturbations” are having a noticeable effect on our nervous system as conflict, stress, and disease is changing the way we talk about our life itself and the relationships we have with each other.

Reflect on how this “natural drift has affected your own life and values and beliefs have changed since you were young. This the existential context this is shaping our everyday relationships with other people through conversation, stories, social practices, etc., and our environment (structural coupling) and the source of many ontological breakdowns relating to depression, fear, anxiety, negativity, stress, etc., that are structurally determined within our nervous system.
