STRUCTURAL COUPLING

Structural Coupling was identified by Cognitive Biologist Humberto Maturana. It is the recurring interaction between a living system and its environment. They are interdependent yet impact each other through the medium of our senses. It is the source of our learning and adaptation, that is mediated through our nervous system which connects with its living environment. When they are both aligned for mutual viability there is said to be “structural congruence” or well-coordinated behaviour“

Structural Coupling” is the recurring interaction between a living system and its environment. They are interdependent and impact each other through the medium of senses. It is the source of learning and adaptation, mediated through the nervous system. When they are both aligned and coherent the result is well-coordinated behaviour. Your sense of self is intrinsically linked and shaped by the demands and incentives of your context and how you see yourself in the world. Achieving this balance is an art that emerges from practical actions that work for us.
