TRUTH
For something to be certain or factually true, it has to be verifiable, using logical argument or seen with one’s own eyes. If it is generally accepted to be the case it can be said to be “grounded” in a truthful interpretation. If we genuinely believe something to be the case then we are being honest. It is “our truth” but may not be shared by everyone else.
We cannot assert it to be true, it is just our assessment based on limited knowledge. So why do we avoid so many personal truths? For example, we are going to die, that’s a fact, but the truth of it is often avoided. We don’t even like to think about it. We can even breathe a sigh of relief when someone else dies. Denial of our own demise is then a social norm. We know it’s going to happen, only the timing is uncertain. It’s more about how we are expected to be by “them” than how we want to be. It’s more important to do the right things and do them right, according to the norms of our “tribe”. As a result, we lose our freedom to choose our own truth to adopt a truth that makes us social conformists. We are living in a way that conforms to the reality we have created. It’s not a fact, merely a belief that we adopt as true for us.
